Pantomime
What did Cinderella say when the Chemist lost her photographs ?
Some day my prints will come (unless of course you are ordering from Arenapal!)

Yes, Christmas is coming and the Pantomime season is round the corner! Derived from the commedia dell’arte and popularized
through harlequinade this peculiarly British delight is the perfect seasonal family entertainment.
Our images cover all types of dames, clowns and pantomime characters including Dan Leno,
Jack Tripp, Twiggy, Cliff Richard, Frankie Howerd, Harry H. Corbett, Geraldine Chaplin,
Frankie Vaughan, Arthur Askey, Dickie Henderson, John Inman, Hugh Paddick, Clive Rowe and Dick Emery.

Christmas and the pantomime are synonymous - to celebrate one without paying a visit to the other infers that one of life's more human moments has slipped by unheeded - for years it has been the custom for long-suffering fathers to rouse themselves from their Boxing Day lethargy to take their eager youngsters to the show and in order that their expectations shall be realised actors musicians authors and a multitude of other people work day and night for months to get the pantomimes ready - not the least of these workers are the scene painters - hidden away in their shops in the suburbs they enthusisasitclaly prepare those enthralling backcloths which lend an air of reality to the pantomime - photo shows scene painters in a North London studio putting the finishing touches to a scene for one of London's many pantomimes

December 4th 1934
