George Balanchine and the New York City Ballet

Next month is the 25th anniversary of the death of the great choreographer George Balanchine and 2008 also sees the 25th anniversary of the New York City Ballet’s last visit to London. Founded by Balanchine in 1948 the NYCB became one of the most distinctive dance companies of the 20th century embracing the traditions of his Russian ballet origins with the youthful wisecracking energy of New York.

We have put together a fantastic selection of images and divided them into four sections; pre 1980, post 1980, directing and personal and finally rehearsals of his ballets past and present.

The two week season of dance at the Coliseum (March 12- 22nd) will include the landmark Balanchine ballets (Agon and Serenade), rare Jerome Robbins (The Four Seasons and Moves) and some new creations from Mauro Bigonzetti, Alexei Ratmansky and Christopher Wheeldon. It’s an exciting ticket for seasoned Balanchine fans and a perfect introduction for a new generation of admirers. Don’t miss what promises to be a great night out!

More images and a new service. We are currently taking in two private music and opera collections and, just to give you a taster of what is to come, we have decided to combine their launch with a new form of presentation. Take a look at A-D, the rest of the alphabet will follow over the coming weeks and then we will start to highlight the bigger picture! If its not on our website now, its probably on its way, so give us a call
