Laurence Burns

Laurence’s first hiring as a production photographer was Peter Brook’s 1970 studio production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM at the Other Place! He worked almost exclusively for the Royal Shakespeare Company over the next ten years and regularly with the legendary director Peter Brook.

As a production photographer Laurence’s archive contains over 30 years of rare rehearsal images, as well as extensive performance coverage, from many UK theatres including the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, Young Vic, Royal Court and many more London and regional venues. His archive also contains a wide range of individual portraits across the performing arts.
Laurence was a regular photographer for the Guildhall School of Music, English Shakespeare Company and Newbury’s Watermill theatre.
