The archives of the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, and The Mander and Mitchenson Collection provide high quality and rare images of Edwardian and Victorian vaudeville and music hall stars including Vesta Tilley, Marie Lloyd, Dan Leno, Little Tich, George Leybourne and Vesta Victoria, as well as the post WWI variety stars such as George Formby, Gracie Fields, Arthur Askey, Max Miller, Bob Hope, Will Hay, and Flanagan and Allen and also include TV stars Morecambe and Wise, Tommy Cooper, Bob Monkhouse and Bruce Forsyth.
Our more modern material from photographers such as Steve Ullathorne, Marilyn Kingwill, Frazer Ashford, Steve Gillet and Pete Jones, covers all the great comedians of our time including Billy Connolly, Joan Rivers, Lenny Henry, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Alexei Sayle, Craig Ferguson, Eddie Izzard, Rik Mayall, and Ade Edmondson - right up to current stars Will Ferrell, Tig Notaro, Michael Mcintyre, Stewart Lee and Lee Evans - both studio portraiture as well as stand up and other stage performance.
